Covid-19 Vaccine to Over 70's

18 January 2021

People aged 70 and over and the clinically extremely vulnerable to begin receiving invitations for vaccinations from today, Monday 18th January 2021. 

Vaccinating the first 2 groups will remain the priority, but vaccination sites which have enough supply and capacity for vaccinating further people are allowed to offer vaccinations to the next 2 cohorts – those aged 70 and over and clinically extremely vulnerable people.

Local Welfare Assistance Scheme Suffolk

The Local Welfare Assistance Scheme (LWAS) in Suffolk is a local response to those who have found themselves in most severe financial hardship. This scheme is designed to ensure vulnerable people in Suffolk, who are struggling to meet essential basic needs are able to have those needs met.

Intended to be a short-term response to the current exceptional circumstances, help will be provided in the form of referrals for household items (furniture and white goods) and in exceptional circumstances, fuel vouchers for gas and electricity card/key top-ups for those in emergency supply.

The NHS are working hard to vaccinate the vulnerable individuals of the nation, with the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccines. Please remember that the NHS will contact you when it is your opportunity to be vaccinated. It's currently being given to:

  • people aged 80 and over
  • people who live or work in care homes
  • health and social care workers at high risk

Please remain patient and continue to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

Covid-19 Vaccine Scam

A new scam is currently being circulated, a text seemingly from the NHS stating that the receiver is eligible to apply for the new vaccine. Including a link which directs to a believable NHS webpage, requesting for personal details and bank details.

Please remain vigilant in these uncertain times and protect others by reporting incidents like these. If you, or anyone you know, have been affected by this fraud or any other scam, report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 1232040 or visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk

Lowestoft Heritage Memorial Plaques Trail

Enjoy the outdoors this winter in the parks and open spaces in Lowestoft and why not delve into the town’s vast history with the Town Council’s Heritage Memorial Plaques Trail. This trail is suitable for the use of all ages, starting at Lowestoft Railway Station and ending in Sparrow’s Nest Park, discovering Lowestoft’s oldest house to the original name of Crown Score.

A Green Christmas Competition Winner Announcement

Thank you to those who submitted to our A Green Christmas Competition, we received some superb entries. Congratulations to our competition winners, Jane and Amy, for their wonderful window display using recyclable items only. Their window display was created from a combination of scrap paper, magazines and leaflets, making a whimsical winter scene in the heart of Lowestoft.

North of Lowestoft Garden Village Development

Suffolk County Council (Corporate Property) invites you to view their virtual public exhibition regarding the production of a Masterplan that will guide future development of land known as the North of Lowestoft Garden Village.

This is a first consultation seeking views before the production of a Masterplan for the land North of Lowestoft Garden Village. This concerns a site allocated in the adopted Local Plan for mixed use development. In light of current restrictions, the consultation period will run for six weeks between the 4th January 2021 and the 15th February 2021, so ensure that all feedback is received by 5pm on the 15th February 2021, when the consultation will close.


To provide feedback, the several ways to do this are listed within the attached leaflet.
