Traffic Monitoring Sensors Installation

15 July 2021

A new generation of traffic sensors are being installed across a number of locations in the County. The Vivacity sensor is intended to capture the number of pedestrian, cycle and vehicle movements all year round, to get a better understanding of the current numbers and seasonal trends.

There will be a total of 20 sensors across Suffolk installed, which together will enable Suffolk County Council Transport Strategy Team to better judge the success or need for any future transport related schemes in the area. In Lowestoft two censors will be installed, one on Dell Road and the second on Bridge Road.

The system is fully GDPR compliant as it does not actually store any personal information, just summary information with no pictures.

It is more poignant than ever that we reflect and celebrate the work of all nurses, doctors, health care assistants, volunteers and many key workers that dedicated their lives to save ours and keep us going in such a difficult year. Why not join the Nation tonight at 8pm to clap for all the NHS and frontline heroes. Let’s make Lowestoft loud and proud as we say thank you.

On behalf of the whole town of Lowestoft, thank you to each and every one of you."

Mayor of Lowestoft announces awarding of Freedom of the Town to local historian

25 June 2021

On Saturday 19 June 2021, Mayor of Lowestoft, Cllr Alan Green attended, ‘Lowestoft 1945: The Year the Lights Came Back On’, to make a surprise announcement to local historian Christopher Brooks that he had been awarded Freedom of the Town of Lowestoft. Nominated by the Lowestoft Evacuee Association, the award recognises Mr Brooks’ dedicated contribution to the Association over the past 30 years. Fittingly, this was also the first live event held at the Marina Theatre since the pandemic. The Town Council would like to thank all at the Marina Theatre and the Evacuee Association for making the evening such a success.

The award will formally be bestowed on Mr Brooks, and two other recipients, later this summer.
