Your Council Tax is made up of contributions to your local councils (Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council, Lowestoft Town Council and Suffolk Police). The money raised through the Council Tax helps manage and develop services and assets in your town and deliver on our commitments to you.
For 2026-2027, Lowestoft Town Council’s budget will be £2,664,909. For a Band D property this is £199.17 per year. This is a 9.9% increase on the cost to each household compared to the 2025-2026 precept (£2,413,263 which was £181.23 for Band D). This equates to £3.82 per week for a Band D property, and provides:

Writing about the Town Council’s budget for 2026/27, the Mayor of Lowestoft, Cllr Nasima Begum, wrote:
“I am delighted to be sharing with you Lowestoft Town Council’s vision for what the coming financial year will bring and our plans for continuing to deliver for local people and put Lowestoft on the map! It was an honour to welcome dignitaries from across Suffolk to Lowestoft as we hosted Suffolk Day. This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase Lowestoft and the great work of the Town Council.
The start of 2025 saw construction work start on the Town Hall which will be the future home for the Town Council, Suffolk Registrars and a place for our community. The coming year will see plenty of opportunities for you to be a part of the project, including attending guided tours of the Town Hall to see how the project is developing.
Our parks and open spaces continue to be places with increased improvements. The past year has seen refurbished and improved play areas opened up at Pakefield Green, Britten Road and Thirlmere Walk, whilst our in-house Grounds and Building Maintenance Team have created new wildflower areas across our parks.
The past year also saw an increase in the number of free sports sessions run by the Town Council. These are aimed at all ages and abilities with sessions on Circuit Training, Pickleball and Tennis taking place throughout the year on top of free access to all our sports facilities, including tennis courts, outdoor gym equipment, bowling greens and a putting green.
Our free-to-access Bulky Waste Collection Scheme has continued to make a positive impact to our Town and will be remain a key service that we deliver into the year ahead.
Lowestoft Town Council has made significant strides in heritage restoration, environmental leadership, community wellbeing, youth engagement, and strategic town planning during 2025/26.
From repurposing key cultural landmarks to launching new services and embedding sustainability, these achievements are actively shaping a vibrant, inclusive Lowestoft for current and future generations.
There are many ways for people to engage with the Town Council, whether it be by attending meetings in-person or online, coming along to our events or activities, or interacting with us on social media. Everyone is welcome to share their views and ideas as we continue our aim of being the voice for the people of Lowestoft.”
