The first park we are visiting for #LoveParks week is Sparrow’s Nest. Situated in the North of Lowestoft by the Suffolk Coastline, Sparrows Nest was originally owned by Robert Sparrow, a local wealthy landowner, before being purchased by the local council in the 1890s.
Over the years, there have been a number of changes in the park which include the former pavilion theatre which was once a popular venue for concerts and visiting performers.
The park is now home to a children’s play area, a bowling green, three museums, the Lowestoft Movie Makers Club and two restaurants/cafes.
Often described as a “Destination Park”, Sparrows Nest has played host to several iconic events over the years, most recently hosting the “People’s Performance in the Park” and beacon lighting in honour of HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. In September this year, Sparrows Nest will also play host to our Great Big Green Weekender (more details about this event will be announced soon!)
