A festive treat is in store this Saturday, December 17 as the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership and the Lowestoft Central Project host their annual Lowestoft railway station Christmas Fayre, with train operator Greater Anglia allowing free parking for those attending the event which will culminate in a public Carol Concert lead by a choir in Victorian dress.
On Saturday, Lowestoft station’s restored Parcels Office will host numerous craft and gift stalls with the Loddon Brass Band and local vocal duo The Vibettes providing musical entertainment on the station concourse. Refreshments, railway souvenirs, books, gifts and festive products will also be available from the station shop and tourist information office throughout the day with everyone welcome to join a short community Carol Concert with the Waveney Singers dressed in traditional Victorian costume from 3pm.
The event is the latest of a number of community activities held since the Lowestoft Central Project commenced a few years ago, earning the volunteer team behind the renaissance of Britain’s most easterly railway station numerous awards and commendations in recognition of their efforts.
Working with the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership, Saturday’s event is set to showcase a host of local producers and craft makers with a wide range of products on sale including handmade jewellery, knitted crafts, decoupage, pet treats, handmade quilts, soaps, painted glassware, shell art, needlefelt, handcrafted cutlery signs, hair accessories, decorated boxes and much more.
Organisers are also inviting local charities and not for profit organisations to have a free stall on the station concourse, which has been decorated with three hundred feet of festive lighting, those wishing to take part are asked to email: lowestoftcentral@gmail.com
Jacqui Dale, director from the Lowestoft Central Project said, “We are hugely excited to be staging our Lowestoft Station Christmas Fayre this Saturday with a host of craft makers in the Parcels Office along with live music on the concourse and a special public Carol Concert at 3pm. We hope the public will join us for our festive celebrations with an opportunity to pick up some unique Christmas gifts.”
The Lowestoft Railway Station Christmas Fayre starts at 10am and runs through until 4pm, live music begins from 11am with The Vibettes and the Loddon Brass Band from 1pm and a public carol concert from 3pm with the Waveney Singers in Victorian costume from 3pm. Free parking for those visiting the event is available in the station’s long stay car park on Denmark Road.
