This Saturday 16 December, Lowestoft Railway Station presents its annual Wherry Lines Christmas Fayre showcasing the work of numerous local crafters and makers.
Presented by the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership and the Lowestoft Central Project, the Christmas Fayre has become an important part of the stations annual programme and is the final event in a successful year which has seen the project team win the award for region’s Best Loved Station and the station placed as runner up in the National Rail Awards Small Station category.
Running from 10am to 4pm, stalls will be inside the stations restored Parcels Office exhibition space and on the main concourse and include original artwork and sketches, artisan jewellery, decoupage, light boxes, knitted crafts, homemade beaded jewellery, dog hampers and treats, silver, needlefelt, watercolours, linen and handsewn goods, homemade cakes and pastries, knitted and crocheted toys, woodcraft and hand painted items.
Jacqui Dale from the Lowestoft Central Project said; “We are thrilled to be presenting our annual Christmas Fayre, providing a unique showcase for some of our fantastic local crafters and makers and a great opportunity to purchase some unique Christmas gifts.”
The station Community Rail Shop and Tourist Information Office will be open throughout for refreshments as well as books, souvenirs, and Christmas gifts as well as stocking information on nearby festive attractions, rail routes, cycling and walking trails. There will also be charity and Community Rail stalls on the concourse and an opportunity to purchase some rare railway signage.
Ahead of this Saturday’s event, project volunteers have been busy decorating the station with over 200metres of festoon lighting and the Wherry Lines sponsored Christmas tree. As with all station events, local charities are offered a free stall on the station concourse.
