New Bridge Officially Opened at Kensington Gardens

Kensington Gardens continues to benefit from ongoing care and maintenance by the Town Council, including upkeep of the lake, garden beds, bowls greens and tennis courts, alongside daily work such as grass cutting, sweeping and litter picking. The Council also works closely with the Friends of Kensington Gardens, whose support plays a vital role in preserving the park.

This latest project represents a significant improvement to the gardens. The new bridge, weighing approximately two and a half tonnes, was installed by the Council’s grounds team in five main sections. Constructed from durable steel and composite materials, it has been designed to remain an attractive and practical feature for many years to come.

Accessibility has been a key consideration in the design, with the addition of ramps at both ends of the bridge. This ensures that the crossing is inclusive and can be enjoyed by all visitors.

The Mayor officially declared the bridge open during a small gathering attended by community representatives, partners and local stakeholders, including those based at the Kensington Gardens tea rooms.

This new addition will improve access around the gardens and enhance the experience for residents and visitors alike, reflecting the Town Council’s continued commitment to investing in and caring for Lowestoft’s public spaces.
