When opened in 1874, Belle Vue was the first free public park in Lowestoft and its layout has remained unaltered since then.

The park is home to the Royal Naval Patrol Service memorial which was erected in 1953 to replace the bandstand that had been demolished in 1952. The memorial commemorates the lives of almost 2400 officers of the Royal Naval Patrol Service who have “no grave but the sea”.

Alongside the RNPS memorial, the park is also home to many other memorials including, The Poppy Garden (created in 2018), Private David Parr Memorial, James Paget Hospital Charity Rose Garden and the Memorial to Amy Denny and Rose Cullender.

In 2024, Belle Vue Park celebrated its 150th Anniversary.  As part of the celebration, an online collection of memories and photographs was created.

Belle Vue Park has remained a beautiful spot to sit and reflect throughout its history.
