Local Life Through the Lens: Phil Mummery Photo Exhibition Opens to the Public
A new public exhibition celebrating life in Lowestoft through the lens of local photographer Philip Mummery is now open at Lowestoft Library, where it will be on display until Sunday 19 April.
Supported by Lowestoft Town Council, the exhibition showcases a remarkable collection of photographs taken between 1999 and 2023, offering a powerful visual record of the town’s people, places and defining moments.
The images capture both everyday life and historic occasions, from Lowestoft Carnival continuing despite flooding, dramatic scenes from the worst floods since 1953, and snow‑covered high streets, to major community events such as the Seafront Airshow, Armed Forces Day and the First Light Festival. Quieter, reflective moments are also featured, including sunsets over Oulton Broad, Remembrance Sunday, and the last sunrise before British Summer Time at Ness Point.
The exhibition highlights Philip Mummery’s long‑standing contribution to documenting local life and provides residents and visitors with an opportunity to reflect on shared memories and the resilience, character and pride of Lowestoft.
The exhibition is free to attend and members of the public are warmly encouraged to visit Lowestoft Library before Sunday 19 April to enjoy this unique photographic journey through the town’s recent history.
