Neil Coleby

Neil ColebyI am a Town Councillor for the Harbour & Normanston Ward where I have lived for the past twenty-four years.  I was born in Kirkley and have also lived in Gunton and Pakefield.

I was first elected to the council in 2017, then co-opted in 2019 and again in 2023 for my third time.  In addition to being a councillor for Lowestoft, I also work in local government as Clerk for Kessingland and am also a board member for the Suffolk Association of Local Councils.

As a member of the RHS, I love Lowestoft’s parks, play areas, allotments and open spaces and designed the Peace Garden at Belle Vue Park.  As someone with mental health issues, I believe that open spaces are important for people’s health, both physical and mental, as well as for the environment and mitigating climate change.  We are very lucky with the amount and variety of open space that there is in Lowestoft, including our beautiful beaches.

I am interested in Lowestoft history and the arts (including forty-years as an amateur performer).  Lowestoft has a wealth of heritage and we are very fortunate to have people who are very passionate about it and who are keen to share that knowledge.  We are also lucky to have three theatres and a wealth of individuals involved in the arts and music.  I hope to be able to work with the council, those organisations and individuals to continue to widen access and involvement with the arts and heritage.
