Born and bred on the Isle of Wight, I served an apprenticeship as a ship draughtsman in the design office at Vickers Ltd, Barrow-in-Furness, qualifying in Naval Architecture. After employment at shipyards on the Clyde and Medway, I came to Lowestoft over 40 years ago to work at Brooke Marine, then becoming a ship surveyor with a major classification society. Due to the contraction of shipbuilding in the UK, I have worked worldwide, from Aberdeen to Athens, Lowestoft to Liaoning in China. I also spent spells on contract, onshore and offshore, on oil and gas platforms in the North Sea.
I am married with two children and five grandchildren. The family home in Lowestoft has always been in St. Margaret’s East Ward, for which I was elected to the Town Council as an independent candidate in May 2019. Being interested in transport matters, I am a member of Railfuture and East Suffolk Travel Association.
To be sustainable, the community of Lowestoft needs jobs and housing. Now is the time to fight for a better future for the town and us all.
