The Ness, the UK’s most easterly park, and Easterly, a Suffolk artist collective, are delivering a series of workshops and demonstrations in July. Using the landscape of The Ness as inspiration for a series of Saturday workshops across multiple disciplines these will be fun and informative and open to anyone of any artistic ability.
Mark Burrell is taking over the unit on Saturday 20 July. Mark, who was born and works in Lowestoft, is known as a 'magical realist' and often incorporates parts of Lowestoft into his paintings which are highly detailed, full of colour, and instantly recognisable. He’ll be leading a small group from a sketch to a painting, learning new techniques on a fun day from 10am – 5pm.
Wear old clothes as you will be using paint!

Miriam King will be helping a group develop a sketch using pen and ink on Saturday 6 July. Miriam works in a range of mediums. She’s presently producing work centred on scenes of Lowestoft and will shortly be commencing a new project, depicting proverbs and old English sayings of the people in the town. Her session is a full day doing A4 or A5 pen & ink drawings with a final colour wash using The Ness as a springboard for memories and landscapes. On Saturday 13 July 2019 Ni Gooding will be inviting the public to drop in and see how to screen print and will demonstrate the process. There’s no need to book for this session just come along from 10am – 5pm, have a go and take a print home.

The final weekend sees local company *Paper-works take over the unit to deliver a session on Linocut in the morning and Drypoint in the afternoon.Hugh Davies’s work is informed by his architectural training. The work explores form and space and takes inspiration from the urban and marine environment around Lowestoft. Lisa Hurcum has a fluid painterly approach to her prints which give them a sense of spontaneity. Home and story-telling are central to her work. The morning Linocut session will be 10am – 1pm and the afternoon on Drypoint, 2pm – 5pm.
